Looking forward to a great 2010 season! Captain Paul and the team are eagerly looking forward to the 2010 season. Look here for updated fishing reports coming soon 2009 Season August Summary While Capt Paul is busily fishing in the Mid-Atlantic tournament in Cape May this week. Fishing in the Mid-Atlantic has been great and they have been getting lots of hits for white marlin. July Fishing Summary Bluefin Fishing There have been recent reports of sightings and some catches of bluefin tuna in the Mud Hole, the Resor and the Triple Wrecks. We are looking towards our first bluefin trip booked the first week in August. Don't miss the fun, book now! Fluke Fishing We have been reasonably happy about fluke fishing thus far - it has been steadily improving and we expect that August will be better as the fluke grow to maturity. As usual, catching keepers has been a bit challenging due this year's stricter size limit. Many have been an inch or less too short in the 17 inch range, which now too short. However, there have been plenty of 19 to 20 inches / 3 to 4-pounders bagged, and some nice 5 to 7-pounders. The fluke has been caught using a mix of tackle - some are doing well using Spro's, while others have fared better using jigs (bottom rigs in particular). In the mix with the fluke, many customers have also been hooking a bunch of ling, porgies and keeper sea bass reeled in from the ocean in 40 feet off Monmouth Beach Mainly, the fluke have been found off of Sandy Hook, but as the Shrewsbury Rocks water is getting warmer, this area is almost ready. Fluke charters the past few weeks have been forced to stay locally and inshore in the Manasquan River due to the heavy swells from Hurricane Bertha, and more recently from Cristobel - this did not stop our eager fishermen from catching fluke. Unfortunately, still some were throwbacks, but other did catch fluke in the 5 to 6 pound range using Gulp swim mullets. Offshore Fishing The past couple of weeks have proven to be difficult for offshore trips because of Hurricanes Bertha and Cristobel. Outings to the Hudson Canyon have found some success on the West Wall before the hurricanes. Some trips for local boats have produced good catches of yellowfin with only a few throw-backs. Most have been in the 40 to 80 pound range with an occassional Mako mixed in. Earlier trips produced mixed results - while plenty of action, many needed to be weighed to assure that they were keepers. Striped Bass Fishing The Shrewsbury Rocks
continue to produce hooked striped bass when trolling using shad rigs,
live bunker or chunked bunker. Plenty of bunkers schooled there and in
the ocean near Brielle. Recent catches have included striped bass in the
20 to 25 pound range. |
